Fruitful Entrepreneurs Podcast: Female Founder Series, Ep 2 with Vinita Baravkar

Episode 2: Following your Purpose for Environmental Sustainability with female founder, Vinita Baravkar

Host, Shelley Tilbrook, chats with female founder, Vinita Baravkar about her entrepreneur journey, her transfer of knowledge from the textiles industry to develop sustainable cotton farming for her brand Bhumi. She shares her insights, lessons, challenges as well as a few tips for entrepreneurs to develop their leadership.

Vinita Baravkar

With Vinita’s background in Health and a Masters in International Public Health she saw first hand the disastrous health and environmental impacts of traditional cotton growing with farmer suicides, child labour, pesticide poisoning, birth defects, harmful dyes and toxic water ways.

After years in the field meeting with amazing NGOs, grassroots organisations and a growing movement of organic farmers, it was time for positive change.

Vinita combined her deep love for the Earth, humanity and sustainable design to create Bhumi Organic Cotton.

The journey began with a simple yet powerful mission: to create organic cotton bedding, bath, and basics that not only feel good, but do good.

Bhumi's organic cotton is sourced from small farmers who use sustainable and ethical practices, supporting fair labor and protecting the planet. And that's just the beginning of their commitment to sustainability. Bhumi is proud to be carbon neutral and aims to leave the earth better than they found it.

"At Bhumi, we are committed to making a difference for both the planet and the people."

Creating a positive Impact on the planet

Bhumi measures their positive impact. By choosing Bhumi, you're making a positive impact on the planet by making systemic changes in the industry, working with the environment and changing the manufacturing process. The below data shows the difference we've made to the environment since 2017:

  • Over 95 million of drinking water saved;

  • Over 1.8 million of driving emissions avoided; and

  • Over 850 metres squared of land farmed without pesticides.
